Choosing happiness

“Awakening to the Life You Want” is the title of chapter 9 of my book

“The Real Meaning of the F Word." What does it really mean awakening to the life you want when you are upset, angry, and frustrated and what can you do about it?

Imagine you are having a great time either with friends, family or your partner, and you start experiencing negative thoughts; you try not to think about it… but the more you try, the more present they are…

What other option we have?

I encourage you to reflect on this old Cherokee tale and apply it to your own life experience.

By no means am I telling you to cover up your feelings or not grieve when you need to cry.  I’m suggesting using the power of choice, to accept that we all have those feelings and to KNOW that we don’t need to act on them.

There is an old Cherokee tale called The Two Wolves.  It goes like this:

A Cherokee elder was teaching his grandchildren about life.

He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me… it is a terrible

fight between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy,

sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, hatefulness, and lies. The other

stands for joy, peace, love, hope, humbleness, kindness, friendship,

generosity, faith, and truth. This same fight is going on inside of

you, and inside every other person, too.”

The children thought about it for a minute. Then one child

asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The Cherokee elder replied… “The one you feed.”

So what part of yourself do you want to feed?

It’s YOUR choice !
